Usually not, provided the surface is permeable or drains to a soakaway on your own land. If you lay more than 5 square metres of impermeable surface that drains onto the road, you do need permission. We design the drainage so it stays permitted development where possible.
Foundations, drainage and utility runs, driveways in resin, block paving or concrete, plus patios and garden landscaping. It is the work that everything else depends on, so it is worth getting right rather than cheap.
Foundations and drainage do, as part of the wider build they support. A standalone patio or driveway generally does not, unless it affects drainage or a structure. We tell you which category your job falls into up front.
